History
The Jaguar 1 or Raketenjagdpanzer 3, abbreviated RakJPz3 Jaguar 1, was a Jagdpanzer of the German Bundeswehr. The RakJPz was relatively lightly armored and relied on its speed and low profile.
The vehicle was intended to engage armored targets from prepared positions at ranges between 1500m and 4000m because the guns of tanks were not effective or accurate enough at those ranges.
This vehicle served in the German Bundeswehr from 1978 to 2006, and in the Austrian Army from 1996 to 2006.
Armament
The main armament was a Euromissile 3KS launch system for the wire-guided anti-tank guided HOT missile with an automatic loading device with a drum magazine containing eight HOT missiles.
At the right side of the front, an MG3A1 in a ball passage/ball mount. As a roof machine gun an MG3 was placed on a turret ring mount on the ring at the hatch of the loader. A total of 4000 rounds were available for the two 7.62 mm machine guns.
On the backside, an electrically operated smoke grenade launcher with 8 canisters of 76 mm was placed.
