History

The Leguan (Iguana) tank rapid bridge is a bridge system for overcoming obstacles offered by KNDS Germany . The system is in use worldwide and is used by Germany, Belgium, Finland, Switzerland, Sweden, Malaysia and the United States, among others, with various bridge-laying vehicles. In the German Armed Forces, the new system is officially referred to as a battlefield bridge (GFB).

The bridge, made of an aluminum alloy, has a width of 4.01 meters, a total length of 26 meters and a total weight of 10.5 tons. With the 26-meter bridge, it is possible to overcome terrain cuts such as bodies of water and ravines up to 24 meters wide.

Instead of the 26-meter bridge, two 14-meter-long individual bridges can be transported and laid; by overlapping a 26-meter and a 14-meter bridge, it is possible to bridge a cut of up to 35 meters wide.

The bridges are approved for the military load class (MLC) 80, or up to 72.6 tons for tracked vehicles and 83.5 tons (corresponding to MLC 90) for wheeled vehicles.
