Background information

The Fennek, named after a type of small desert fox, Light Armored Reconnaissance Vehicle, is a four-wheeled armed reconnaissance vehicle produced by the German company Krauss-Maffei Wegmann and Dutch Defense Vehicle Systems. It was developed for both the German Army and the Royal Army to replace their current vehicles.

In April 2000, the prototype completed field trials and a combined order was placed in December 2001. 410 were ordered by the Royal Army and 222 by the German Army.
