Background information
The Seehund ("Sealg") was the most effective German "dwarf" submarine. The project XXVIIB was designed in the spring of 1944. It was developed at Schichau Werk in Elbing and Germania Werft in Kiel.
Until the end of the war, 285 examples were built. Since January 1945 they took an active part in battle. Seehund midget submarines served in 312d K-Flottilla, based in IJmuiden (the Netherlands).
They carried out 142 combat actions and sank 9 Allied ships. After the end of the war, four Seehund submarines served in the French Navy until 1956.
