History
The Panzerkampfwagen IV (Sd.Kfz. 161) was a German medium tank used extensively during World War II and formed the backbone of German armoured units.
The Ausf. J was introduced as a simplification of the Ausf. H to speed up production. The electric generator that powered the turret of the tank was removed, so that the turret had to be rotated manually.
In addition, the cylindrical silencer on the exhaust was replaced by two silencers with flame suppression. The side skirts of the Panzer IV were replaced by wire mesh, the gunner's front sight hatch in the turret front was removed and the number of supports was reduced from four to three to further speed up production.
The Panzerbeobachtungswagen IV was an artillery observation tank built on the chassis of the Panzer IV.
It received new radio equipment and an electric generator, which was installed in the left rear corner of the fighting compartment.
