Dutch Armoured Cars and Tanks 1914-1943
The neutrality of the Netherlands during the First World War did not prevent the Dutch army from acquiring some armoured cars. In the years that followed, the army bought armoured cars and tanks to become better acquainted with them, but also developed vehicles itself to counter threats that were specifically perceived by the Netherlands. When the Second World War broke out, a limited number of armoured vehicles were active in the Netherlands. In the Dutch East Indies, the purchase of vehicles continued after May 1940, but it was insufficient to stop the Japanese invasion. In Suriname and the Dutch Antilles, a number of these armoured cars and tanks remained in service until the end of the war.
